If you love looking at Pinterest boards for home decor or are a sucker for TV series featuring home makeovers, you will consider thrift shops a treasure chest. I love decorating my home, and I do a lot of tweaks now and then.

This is something that relaxes me. That is why I avoid buying new and branded items because I don’t want to spend so much on this splurge.

You can have a beautiful home filled with items from thrift stores. Nobody needs to know unless they ask.

When shopping for second-hand finds, only choose items you know you will use. This is because there are so many options and it could be overwhelming sometime. If you are not careful, you might end up with more junk than the items you’d actually use.

Visit several thrift shops near you to get familiar with the items they have and the days when they typically display newer stuff.

What can you get from thrift shops? Here are some of my favorite ones:

  1. Pottery

I have found amazing pottery pieces from thrift shops. They are worth much lower than the items you’ll find at Target but have the same quality and aesthetic feel. It always feels fulfilling to find handmade items from thrift shops. They are quirky, durable, and unique.

  1. Art

If you are into painting, get your blank canvas at thrift shops. You can get bigger items without breaking the bank.

Some thrift shops also have an art section. You may find interesting pieces or interesting replicas of known artworks if you are lucky.

  1. Brass

Brass makes an excellent decorative item or centerpiece. I have several brass candlesticks that come in varying sizes and styles. I repaint them to suit the color of the space where I place the items. They turn any ordinary-looking area into something magical and classy.

  1. Textiles

Thrift stores offer many excellent textiles. They have tablecloths, pillows, comforters, quilts, blankets, and many more. I’ve bought a lot of textiles from these shops. You only need to wash them thoroughly, and they will look heavenly. Always go for high quality made from natural fibers to ensure they will last.

  1. Glassware

This is among the most sought-after items at thrift shops. They are timeless and easy to clean. You can get simple glasses. You can also score great deals with vintage bottles, depression glass, and crystals.

As long as you check often, you will find a lot of excellent pieces at thrift shops.
